We opened Breathe & Bend in the spring of 2013, in what used to be a picture framer's on the quiet end of Larkfield Row. The floor is the same reclaimed oak it was then, a little more worn now, warm underfoot in winter.

The idea was simple, and it has not changed. Most of us do not need a fitness competition. We need forty-five unhurried minutes where the phone is in a basket by the door, the lights are low, and someone reminds us to breathe out fully. That is the whole offer. You do not have to touch your toes, own the right leggings, or have done this before.

Classes stay small on purpose, fourteen mats and no more, because a teacher who can see every person in the room is a teacher who can actually help. We keep a few loaner mats, blocks, and bolsters by the entrance, and the kettle is nearly always on. People come for a term of beginners' classes and are still with us six years later, which we take as the best review we could ask for.

We are independent and plan to stay that way. No franchise, no app that nags you, no membership you have to phone up to cancel. Just a good room, a handful of teachers who know your name, and a timetable that quietly bends around ordinary life.

The people at the front of the room

Your teachers

Between them they have been teaching for the better part of forty years. None of them will make you feel like the least bendy person in the building.

Nadia

Founder · Flow & Yin

Trained in Rishikesh and Bristol, Nadia opened the studio in 2013. She teaches the morning flows and the Sunday tea and meditation.

Tom

Founder · Foundations

Tom looks after the beginners' courses and the lunchtime resets. Patient to a fault and a firm believer that everyone can breathe better.

Priya

Yin & Restorative

Priya teaches the candlelight yin and the long Sunday holds. Come for these when the week has been too much and you need to slow right down.

Marta

Gentle & Accessible

Marta runs the chair yoga, the restorative hour and the mums and movement class. Gentle, careful teaching for bodies that need a kinder pace.

In their own words

What our regulars say

"I walked in convinced I was too stiff and too old for this. Two years on I'm still here every Tuesday. Nobody ever made me feel like the odd one out."
Helen G.3 weeks ago
"The lunchtime reset is the only reason I get through Wednesdays at my desk. Forty-five minutes, back at work by one, and I'm a different person."
Daniel P.2 months ago
"After my hip replacement Marta's chair class got me moving again when I honestly thought that was it. Kind, careful, never any showing off. I recommend it to everyone at the surgery."
